Unsung 8

How much of the proceeds of Unsung 8 goes to jack.org


100% of our proceeds go directly jack.org. The production costs are kept to a minimum and all other funds are donated.




When are the show dates?


The shows will be performed on the evening of November 6th as well as the afternoon and evening of November 7th at the Vaughan City Playhouse.




Where and when are rehearsals?


Rehearsal location is still being determined while ensuring safety at this time. Cast will only be called to rehearsals for songs they are cast in. Rehearsals will be held on Thursday and Sunday evenings starting in late June. There are some additional rehearsals leading up to the show dates that are held at the theatre November 3rd, 4th and 5th and then the shows on the 6th and 7th. These last few dates are tech and dress rehearsals that are vital to the final production's quality.




How many rehearsals are there and how many do I need to be at?


While rehearsals will be held twice a week between end of June till the show, you will not be called to all rehearsals and in fact, depending on what you are cast in, you may be called for far less than half.




What if I need to miss some rehearsals?


Welcome to the club. :) We all have other obligations in life and not being available for all rehearsals is inevitable for some. We collect everyone's schedule conflicts prior to the start of rehearsals and endeavour to avoid scheduling people when they are away. This does not mean it never happens but we do our best. If you do need to be away on a date you are scheduled, you are expected to review notes, videos and/or music for that rehearsal and practice on your own prior to the next rehearsal. If you are going to miss a lot of rehearsals and are concerned it will be too many, please contact us to discuss to see if registration still makes sense for you.




Why is there a donation of 495 to join the cast of Unsung 8?


Unsung Heroes offers talented members of the community a theatre boot camp experience, that runs for three months, with industry professional directors, musical directors, choreographers, technical directors and vocal coaches. All working with you to put on an incredible show and all with the goal of donating all of our proceeds to jack.org. We ask our cast to make a donation to jack.org to help in this regard, to help us raise as much as we can. The fee is a direct donation and comes with a full tax receipt. NOTE: that professional singers, acters and dancers do not need to make a donation as they are already donating their time and services. Additionally, anyone who in a financial position that prevents them from covering the fee can inquire about subsidies and/or payments plans. For professionals or those in need of financial assistance, please email info@usnungheroesproductions.com to discuss your registration.




What if I cannot afford the registration fee/donation?


You can still be in the show. There are subsidies available for those who need including payment plans, partial and full subsidies. If you need help, email us to discuss. At the end of the day, Unsung was founded to honour a women who raised three children in poverty and thus the fee will never be something we will allow to be an obstacle to joining our show. If you need help, reach out to us. Please note that subsidies are offered at UHP's discretion on a case by case basis.




What if more people register than you can take?


We often do get more registrations than we can take. In that instance, we choose a cast based on auditions. If someone is registered and paid but does not get in, they are given a full refund. In the past, many have stayed on with the production to help with the show backstage which is something we encourage for those interested. You will still receive a full refund in that instance.




What if I don't want to sing?


This is a musical revue show so everyone is expected to sing, however, not everyone will be singing solo lines. In the registration form, you can check off that you do not wish to sing any solo lines and we will not cast you in any.




What if I just want to dance?


Similar to the last answer, you still need to sing as part of the ensemble but you do not need to sing solo lines. In the registration process you can check off that you do not wish to sing solo lines AND you can check off that you are a skilled dancer to be considered for more choreography than the average cast might be given.




Do I need to be a professional singer or dancer or actor to be in the show?


No, not at all. While our casts are a mix of professional and amateur talent, there is no requirement. The only requirement is that you have a good attitude, a supporting nature, are willing to learn, willing to be vulnerable and that you will feel good about raising money for Camp Ooch!




When are auditions?


Auditions will be held over Zoom on April 10th, 11th and 12th. Time slots will offered on a first come first serve basis.




What should I prepare for auditions?


All cast are required to audition. Everyone on stage matters and needs to be seen by the Director, Musical Director and Artistic Producer. Our goal is more than just deciding who sings what but also how to ensure everyone looks their best. We would not want not put anyone in a position, moment, vocal line or character that would make them look less than their best.

During the audition, you are asked to prepare two song sections (NOT FULL SONGS). We suggest one that shows off your vocal range and that both allow you to emote and/or demonstrate your acting/dancing skills.

Due to virtual auditions, you will need to have a karaoke track prepared or other accompaniment.

We may cut a song short during auditions, this has nothing to do with how you did. It just means we heard what we needed to hear and given how many people we have to audition, we need to keep the schedule moving. That said, when you pick a song section to sing, try and pick the section you most want us to hear.




How will Unsung manage rehearsals in compliance with covid requirements


Unsung takes this very seriously and wants to ensure not only safety but comfort. •We will meet and/or exceed all safety guidelines provided by the government •Cast must follow to participate in the show •Rehearsals could be done in one of the following ways depending on the lockdown stage at the time 1.Smaller groups at rehearsals, even for full cast numbers 2.Full cast numbers may be staged differently (example, rotate through cast, space in between cast, etc) 3.Masks at rehearsals 4.Outdoor rehearsals where possible 5.Increase learn on your own vocal tracks to reduce and focus rehearsals




How will Covid and safey impact a live November show?


The truth is, there is more we don't know than what we do know. However, what we do know from parts of the world where vaccination is farther along is that there is a measured return to normalcy. While we don't know exactly what that looks like, we feel confident that the show will be able to be staged safely. If that isn't the case, we will cancel the show and refund the cast. Here's what a November show could look like. 1.GTA is mostly vaccinated and not on lockdown >Normal show 2.We are in a modified lockdown >Smaller audience 3.We are in Yellow or Green lockdown >Very small audience, plexiglass, combined with livestream 4.We are in full lockdown >The show is cancelled and cast refunded
